The Greatest Kakadu Adventure

  • 09 6月 2023

If you consider yourself the adventurous type, you’re in for a treat at Kakadu. Get ready for rugged landscapes, incredible wildlife and amazing deep orange sunsets. Here is your itinerary for a Top End adventure like no other. Kakadu, here we come!

Wake up at Travelodge Resort Darwin

Located in the heart of Darwin City, the newly refurbished Travelodge Resort Darwin is the perfect place to wake up on day one of your Territory adventure. Freshen up by diving into the outdoor resort pool, then enjoy a hearty breakfast at the hotel’s Treetops Restaurant before you get on the road. Kakadu National Park is a 2.5-hour drive from Darwin, so get your playlist ready and jump in the car, your adventure awaits!

Join the Jumping Crocodile Cruise on Adelaide River

About halfway to Kakadu, stop at the Adelaide River and board a riverboat for an experience you’ll never forget. With over 80,000 saltwater crocodiles roaming the Northern Territory waterways, this is your chance to get a close-up view of these incredible beasts. Gasp in amazement as huge crocs jump out of the water to grab chunks on meat dangled on the end of a line. Don’t worry, you’ll be safe and sound inside the riverboat – just don’t decide to go for a swim.

Swim in nature’s infinity pool at Gunlom Falls

It’s a steep climb to the top of Gunlom Falls, but oh so worth it once you get up there and marvel at the breathtaking view over Kakadu. Be sure to pack your swimmers as you won’t be able to refuse the crystal-clear water of the plunge pool. This spot has been made famous in many movies including the well-known Crocodile Dundee (don’t worry, there aren’t any crocs in this water).

Ubirr Rock

Watch the stunning sunset at Ubirr Rock

Finish your memorable adventure with a hike to Ubirr Rock, one of Kakadu’s most famous spots. Here you’ll find some of the most magnificent ancient Aboriginal rock art and learn about the traditional custodians of this land. As sunset approaches, take a seat and gaze out over the wetlands, and let the spirit and serenity of Kakadu envelop you.

Kakadu

Discover the joys of Kakadu in the Wet

Heavy rains mean the waterfalls in Kakadu are at their most impressive during the wet season. Kakadu’s traditional owners recognise six different seasons. Each has its own appeal but Kudjewk, the monsoon season from December to March, is particularly special. That’s when thunderstorms and heavy rain cause an explosion of plants and animals. You’re much more likely to see a croc and an array of birdlife during the wet, with one third of Australia’s species found in Kakadu.
