FAR EAST HOSPITALITY LAUNCHES EXCLUSIVE MADE-IN-SINGAPORE ROOMS

Singapore, 13 August 2018 – In line with National Day celebrations, Far East Hospitality, one of Singapore’s leading operators of hotels and serviced residences, today unveiled four exclusive Made-In-Singapore rooms at each of its Village Hotels. These rooms serve to connect travellers with Singapore’s varied culture, history and heritage, and provide an interpretation of Singapore-inspired hospitality.

“Today’s sophisticated travellers are in search for local and authentic experiences, and that is what Far East Hospitality seeks to provide through our Village brand,” said Mr Arthur Kiong, Chief Executive Officer of Far East Hospitality. “Guests who opt to stay in these Made-in-Singapore rooms will be able to eat, play, and explore like a local – ultimately, bringing home a memorable experience of Singapore.”

Constructing the Made-in-Singapore experience

At the start of 2018, the first-of-its-kind project saw students from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) and the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) submitting designs that showcased their interpretation of “Singapore-inspired hospitality”. Students drew inspiration from a variety of sources such as cultural landmarks in the property’s vicinity, location’s history, and heritage. In March 2018, Far East Hospitality took inspiration from the four winning concepts then worked with the hotel’s in-house design team to construct these rooms.

Guests can book for a stay under the “Made-In-Singapore Room package” from any of the Village Hotels from 27 August 2018 onwards. The package is priced from SGD250 nett per room per night. Upon check-in, they will be welcomed with a local drink – milo dinosaur, and an exclusive photo which captures the memories of their stay. Besides staying in these exclusive rooms, guests are also entitled to:

  • Breakfast for two
  • SGD10 F&B vouchers
  • A Village Passport which includes places that guests can visit to “Explore like a Local”
  • An Activity Book which incorporates:
    • 10 ways to Live like a Local
    • A take-home recipe card featuring local food such as chicken rice and mee siam
    • Mini games for guests to play while they learn interesting facts about local attractions and culture
  • A Singapore-inspired souvenir

This Made-In-Singapore Room campaign is supported by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) through the Experience Step-Up Fund.

“We are pleased to be able to work with Far East Hospitality to bring our Passion Made Possible brand to life through the Made-in-Singapore room campaign. The submissions have showcased not just the participants’ creativity, but also their passion for local culture as well,” said Ms Ong Huey Hong, Director, Hotels and Sector Manpower, STB. “We hope that this campaign will inspire more hotels to consider weaving in local elements into the guest experience, and offer guests a more intimate glimpse into Singapore’s rich heritage.”

About the Made-in-Singapore Room Campaign

The Made-in-Singapore Room started with the Village brand story.

Despite being a modern metropolis, Singapore’s culture is intrinsically connected to its native heritage. Its beginnings as a maritime trading port reeled in masses of culturally diverse immigrants who congregated into various enclaves – comprising areas such as Bugis, Changi, Katong, and Chinatown. Today, these sprawling districts still form the backbone of Singapore’s multi-cultural heritage, placing the city at the crossroads of Eastern and Western cultures.

By opting for locales in the heart of these quarters, where the various communities historically thrived, Village seeks to provide local and authentic experiences for sophisticated and discerning travellers. Village’s hotels possess the cultural credentials to offer guests an immersive Singapore encounter – with inspired indigenous elements weaved into their properties and suite of offerings that allows them to eat, play and explore like a local during their stay.

For the Made-in-Singapore room campaign, Far East Hospitality collaborated with young budding talents from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) and Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), to design a Made in Singapore room for our Village Hotel Albert Court, Village Hotel Bugis, Village Hotel Changi, and Village Hotel Katong. Far East Hospitality has taken inspiration from the students’ interpretation of Singapore-inspired hospitality and then worked with the hotel‘s in-house design team to construct the Made-In-Singapore room which reflects the multi-racial culture, heritage and history of Singapore.
